"Voices of the Filipino YOUTH"
1st National Peer Educators'/Facilitators Forum on ARH

About 50 delegates from 19 organizations nationwide gathered and participated in the 1st National Peer Educator's/Facilitators Forum on ARH held in Panglao Island Bohol City last October 23-26, 2003. This 3 day forum was dubbed:" Uniting the Youth: One Vision, One Voice" organized by Remedios AIDS Foundation - YOUTH ZONE project in partnership with KABALAKA, POPCOM Region 7 through the support of Packard Foundation.

The goal of the youth forum is to provide a venue for youths to discuss/share/learn among each other's Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health project. Specific Objectives were as follows:

  1. Identify youth situations in their respective area
  2. Share project activities and learning
  3. Share approaches in implementing activities
  4. Determine gaps of their projects

This activity showed full youth participation from the conceptualization, design, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of this activity. A Feedback Forum among key stakeholders was conducted last November 27 , 2003 to give the results of the workshop.

The workshop highlights the following issues:

  • ARH issues and concerns were discussed from the perspectives of the youth peer educator and were validated by YAFS 2003 results.
  • Direct sharing of experiences among peer educators on their work and experiences on ARH from the field.
  • The need to have create more avenues for dialogues/discussions of ARH issues among peer educators
  • Need to document project success stories and failures as well.
  • The need to scale up access to youth friendly (medical) RH services and lastly.
  • The need to conduct more capacity building initiatives among the youth in handling ARH issues.

Workshop participants went home energized and revitalized as they imbibed new learnings, reflecting on past project initiatives and evoke new strategies on ARH. What is appreciated amongst participants is the process the workshop was handled and the richness of experienced by everybody.
