This November 2001, Remedios AIDS Foundation, Inc with funding support
from the Ford Foundation Philippines launches its two (2) new publications namely :
Counseling Persons with HIV/AIDS (PHAs) A Manual and Exploring Alternative and
Complementary Therapies for PHAs.
"Counseling Persons with HIV/AIDS A Manual" has embarked on to document
RAF's six year experience in counseling of7 caregivers and clients at the
community level. The manual tackles case studies which illustrates concepts
and principles of counseling.
"Exploring Alternative and Complementary Therapies for PHAs" is an initial
step of RAF in recognizing the role of alternative/complementary modalities
in HIV/AIDS in the Philippines. RAF felt the need to look into the role of
alternative therapies to complement existing biomedical and psychosocial services.
The manual discusses the whole gamut of alternative and complementary therapies
that can be done by health worker in a resource limited settings.
Next steps will be for RAF to train key stakeholders like NGO caregivers,
health care providers, church laypersons, social workers and community
leaders on the various care and support services. These series of trainings
along with the manuals form part of the overall initiative of the RAF towards
achieving an enabling and supportive environment for PHAs.
