The AIDS Council for Negros Occidental Welfare, Inc. (AIDS Council-NOW) is organizing The First Visayas Convention on HIV/AIDS set on August 7-10, 2002 at the Bacolod Convention Plaza Hotel in Bacolod City. The theme for this Convention is "Strengthening Local Initiatives".
The AIDS Council-NOW is an organization composed of 34 multisectoral groups coming from both government and non-government organizations with the primary aim of preventing the spread of AIDS in Negros Occidental.
More than 500 participants are expected to attend to this Convention coming from 16 provinces in the Visayas.
"We know putting together a convention of regional magnitude needs commitment from the organizers and supporters." Replied by Gloria Melocoton Head Secretariat of the Conference. "The Philippine National AIDS Council for Population, Health and Welfare, Inc. (PNGOC) and the Philippine HIV/AIDS NGO Support Program (PHANSuP) have signified their support for the Convention." she added.
For this convention, booths for NGOs, local governments, agencies and pharmaceuticals, etc. to display programs, IEC materials, medical literature and the like. With the dearth of HIV/AIDS/STI related materials in majority of our provinces, Ms Melocoton truly hopes the support from variou key stakeholders.
