Through the generous support of UNAIDS through the Philippine National
AIDS Council (PNAC), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has
partnership with RAF in the development of two manuals.
This first manual is entitled "Gabay sa HIV/AIDS para sa mga
Lider at Boluntaryo ng Pamayanan" which is a handbook for community leaders and
volunteers in the prevention of HIV/AIDS. This manual hopes to provide
information among community leaders and volunteers on HIV/AIDS issues as well as
provide them skills in reintegrating persons living with HIV/AIDS back into the
community. It discusses how community leaders handles issue such as rights of
persons living with HIV/AIDS (PHAs) as well as pressing issues such as stigma
and discrimination. This initiative will eventually help prepare the community
in accepting PHAs.
Another manual is entitled a "Self-instructional manual Social
Workers Training Manual on HIV/AIDS/STI." The said training manual will provide
social workers basic information and counseling skills on HIV/AIDS/STI. One main
feature is how to conduct a social diagnosis using the case management approach
among social workers.
The said manuals will be produced by the third quarter of 2001.
After these initiatives, actual conduct of trainings will be done by RAF and
DSWD at the community level. This complements RAF initiative on the Philippine
Care and Support Model for PHAs.
RAF received a grant from PNAC as with its write up entitled
ACT@COM.BASE (AIDS Coordinating Team @ Community Base) A Primer Care and Support System and
Structures. This manual is a primer for local government units and community
workers on how to set up a community care and support team within their own
locality. This initiative complement the HIV/AIDS Core team (HACT) of the
government hospitals thereby are complementary with its service delivery. The
said manual will soon be released by 2002.
