Care and Support : A Self-Instructional Manual for Social Workers on HIV/AIDS/STI
HIV AIDS care and support services in the Philippines is there is very limited capacity among health care providers on HIV AIDS caregiving and more equally important is that access to lifesaving drugs anti-retroviral therapies (ARVs) and opportunistic infections (OI) is not readily available. The need to maximize psychosocial support mechanisms among key stakeholders is important especially in resource limited settings like the Philippines.
Philippine National AIDS Council (PNAC) in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare (DSWD) with technical assistance from the Remedios AIDS Foundation, Inc. has developed a module on HIV/AIDS prevention , care and support for social workers deployed in the communities. The manual will enable social workers to understand the circumstances surrounding the plight and the needs of those who are infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. The reintegration of the PHA in their communities is achieved by counseling and empowering people living with HIV/AIDS and their families and/or significant others careful evaluate choices and decisions in their lives.
It is a a self-instructional manual that contains three main topics:
Self awareness among social workers - an introspective look on values stereotype behavior of oneself before embarking on HIV/AIDS care and support
Case management process on HIV/AIDS which includes the discussion of how the regular case management form of social workers integrate the issues. It also points out skills on basic counseling and other forms of counseling such as group/family counseling, grief and loss.

This guidebook is developed in partnership with Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through the generous support of Philippine National AIDS Council (PNAC). The guidebook is written in Pilipino intended for local community leaders and volunteers . To build their awareness and capacity in confronting HIV/AIDS in their own community. It provides the readers on how to participate actively at the community level in terms of HIV/AIDS concerns.
