EMPOWERING SEX WORKERS AS PEER EDUCATORS:
CLINICA REMEDIOS EXPERIENCE

ISSUE:

Peer Education with sex workers can positively effect HIV/AIDS Education and promotion

DISCUSSION:

The Clinica Remedios focuses on freelance sex workers in the modification of risky behavior through making use of peer education approach. Sex industry workers are more comfortable getting information and counseling from their peer. They would rather listen and seek advise from people also coming from the same industry where they work.

RESULT:

A pivotal area for outreach has been the aspect of peer support for effecting modification of risky behavior. The peer outreach activities have been employed as an approach to encourage peers to take more active roles in personal growth and development, maintain better health and make life plans for themselves, think of changes and improvement.
